El Camino Food Truck

The El Camino Food Truck is based out of Monterrey, Mexico. To give it an American feel, design firm Savvy Studio decorated the truck with the hand-written typography of vintage American signage. These friendly slogans ("King of the Street," "You Are in for a Treat," "Market Fresh," etc.) aren't the only things hand-written. Even the menus and packaging display this fun lettering.

Social Fiction

Illustrator Steve Lowtwait and writer Michael Smith are creating what they claim to be the first ever Social Fiction story. Above is Hawk Funn's Facebook profile. Hawk Funn is the fictional lead character in the duo's first story about a typical father with a phobia of being indoors.

The aim of these stories is to be completely told through social media. Different characters have their own social media profiles from Facebook to Twitter and beyond. Even the companies characters work for have their own websites. Best yet, since the whole idea is that this is told over social media, the audience not only gets to interact with the characters (the creators will act as their characters and respond to audience comments) but it is also able to have an effect on the story itself. See Hawk Funn's Facebook page here.

Ultimately, according to Lowtwait, Social Fiction could become a new storytelling industry, with paid writers, directors, artists, and actors all working full-time on crafting narratives in real time. It is definitely and interesting idea. I guess the only question is if this first story will have enough traction to build up people's interest.

Stay Active... and Drink Coke?

Coca-Cola's brilliant new ad depicts the life of a man who is happy because he stays active and active because he stays happy (and because he takes time now and then to drink Coke, of course). The construction, execution, and precision of the many wooden puppets involved is incredible and a lot of fun to watch.

Visualized Words and Their Meanings

Indian graphic designer Arun Raj created these awesomely minimal typographic posters that illustrate the meanings of the presented words.

Expressive Number Faces

This is a fun little video (only 6 seconds long) by Irish designer Max Halley. In just a short time, Halley manages to pack in a lot of expression and personality, reinterpreting numerals as emoting faces.
