Saul Bass Google Doodle

In recognition of famed graphics and movie title designer Saul Bass's 93rd birthday, Google has posted a fantastic tribute on their homepage. Appropriately, the new Doodle is a motion graphics piece that pays tribute to many works in Bass's filmography, including Psycho, Anatomy of a Murder, Spartacus, North by Northwest, Vertigo, The Man with the Golden Arm, and West Side Story among others. Watch it here on Google or here on Youtube.

Windows of New York

Windows of New York is a fantastically elegant collection of illustrated windows observed by New Yorker and graphic designer, José Guizar. José challenges himself to "never stop looking up" in the crowded city by updating the ever-growing series each week with a new window. I love how clean and simple the lines and shapes are while still communicating such great detail. Below are a few of my favorites so far.

Google's World Wide Maze

Google has just launched its latest in a long list of crazy mind-boggling innovations. World Wide Maze is an interactive game that can turn any website of your choosing into a playable, 3D maze (What?!). You control a marble that must zig and zag its way to the finish (by turning your smart phone), collecting crystals along the way and navigating the treacherous curves of the Google logo (or Facebook, or Tumblr, or Twitter, or whatever). The requirements? You must have Google Chrome installed on both your computer and smart phone and then sync the two. Then, download the (chrome.com/maze) and enjoy! Video below.

Gender-Swapped Fairy Tales

Sleeping Beauty

This is a series of gender-swapped fairy tale illustrations by artist Yudi Chen. These struck my interest not only because the illustrations themselves are quite nice, but because my thesis has had a focus on the reinterpretations of stories and how they can be portrayed visually.

Confessions

Confessions is a public art project created and maintained by artist Candy Chang that resided in The Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas during the summer of 2012. Over 1,500 confessions were put up on display on square wooden plaques, written on by the confessors themselves, or recreated on large canvases by the artist.

Inspired by Catholic confessionals, Chang installed a row of booths in which anyone can write down their confession anonymously to be included in the exhibition.
